Basketball Valley Champs Results

Our Valley Champs were held today with a little bit of a schedule change as some teams were unable to make the tournament due to weather conditions. As a result we had a 3 team round robin with a semi-final and a championship final. Our first game saw us playing against Minitonas where we probably played our best game of the year but came up a little bit short losing 36-33. We then played ESRSS and lost by about 20. This put us in the semi-final against Minitonas again but could not pull off the win which ended our chance at becoming the Basketball Valley Champs. All in all, we had a great year of basketball and improved tremendously from the start of the season. Thank you for a great season of dedication, hard work and great sportsmanship. Wouldn't want to have a different team of players as you guys & girls were awesome. Thank you to our parents for their support in cheering us on and providing rides to our exhibition games. It is great to have the support to allow these student-athletes to grow as players & people.

Also, I would like to thank our Grade 8 players who will move onto the high school for their JV & SV basketball careers. Thank you for your contributions to our Cobras Basketball Program and the leadership you all showed. Thank you Austin, Chayce, Carson, Joanne and Kirsten! Please go for it next year as you are as good as I think & say you are! I would say good luck but you won't need it :)

Basketball Valley Champs - End of Day Rides

We will be taking a bus to Basketball Valley Champs tomorrow morning but will not be coming back on a bus. We have Mr. Kalinowsky, Mrs. Riehl and Mrs. Spencer in attendance tomorrow and have offered to take kids back to Benito with them. Thank you very much parents!!

Basketball Valley Champs

Basketball Valley Champs is on Tuesday March 6 at SVRSS. Students will be bussed there and back. Our schedule is as follows:

11:00 = Benito vs ESRSS
1:00 = Benito vs Birch River
3:00 = Benito vs Minitonas
4:00 = Championship Game

If you are able to come out and cheer them on that would be great! Good luck Cobras!

Basketball Practices

We will be having some extra basketball practices between now and the end of the season. Practice schedule is as follows:

Wednesday Feb 29 = 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Thursday Mar 01 = 8:00am - 8:40am & 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Monday March 05 = 8:00am - 8:40am & 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Tuesday March 06 = 8:00am - 8:40am & Valley Champs

Have not received a Valley Champs schedule yet but will pass along as soon as I get one.

Pink Shirt Day - Thursday March 1

Just a reminder that Pink Shirt Day will be on March 1 not February 29 due to the Grade 5-8 students being on a ski trip that day and the JK/SK class not here that day as well. Students and staff who ordered official Pink T-Shirts will receive them the morning of March 1 to wear all day and be able to take them home at the end of the day. Thank you.

Cobra Curling Classic VII

On Friday February 24, we held our 7th annual Cobra Curling Classic at the BRC for our grade 5-8 students. Once again, we had a great day of curling and sportsmanship. I would like to thank our Benito School Parent Council for providing the awards for our school bonspiel and thank the parents who volunteered to open the canteen for us to have snacks and lunch during the day. Would also like to thank Mr. Staples for pebbling the ice for us twice during the day as well.

At the end of the day, the results were as follows:

1st Place = Blaize N, Kristen B & Shynnelle P
2nd Place = Claudine M, Cody L, Kass E & Maria S
3rd Place = Austin S, Branden S & Riley W

Closest to the Button = Conner B (12cm) & Megan C (2cm)
Rings Competition = Dean K (8pts) & Tylea E (7pts)

Basketball @ ESRSS & Minitonas

We are off to ESRSS on Monday for a basketball game. Ideally we would like to leave school at 3:20ish to get our game started at 4:00 and ending at 5:00. I can take 4 with me but cannot bring them back. If there is a parent who can take another 4 or 5 with them that would be great. Players will need to figure out transportation back to Benito as well.

The same idea will be in effect for Tuesday's game is Minitonas.

Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day will be on Thursday March 1 instead of Wednesday February 29 because the grades 5-8 will be downhill skiing and the JK/SK class will not be here that day as well. We have received the t-shirts in the mail and will be handing them out that day (March 1) so no one forgets theirs at home. Again, Pink Shirt Day is on Thursday March 1. If you did not order a pink t-shirt please wear something of your own that is pink. We are taking a stand against bullying and wearing pink shows our support towards this cause.

Parents who ordered shirts for themselves or for other members of your family, I will be sending those shirts home this coming week, this way you have them ahead of time. If your child attends Benito School they will still receive their t-shirt on Pink Shirt Day (March 1) so they will have it to wear on that day for sure (eliminates the chance of forgetting it at home). Hopefully this does not cause any issues. Thank you!

ESRSS @ Benito

On Wednesday February 22, ESRSS 8s will be playing against the Cobras at Benito School from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. Come on out and cheer on the home team! Good luck Cobras!

Basketball 2

Basketball 2 will be held on Tuesday February 21 at SVRSS from 2:30 - 8:00. Our 3 games are scheduled for 2:30pm vs Minitonas, 4:00pm vs ESRSS 7s and 6:15pm vs ESRSS 8s. We will be bussed there and bussed back. Expected time to be back at Benito School is 7:45pm. Good luck Cobras.

Basketball Jam - Grade 56

Our Grade 56 Basketball Jam is Tuesday February 14 at ESRSS from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Our games are scheduled for:

5:30 vs ESRSS 2
6:15 vs ESRSS 1
6:45 vs MMYS 2
7:15 vs MMYS 1

Please remember to bring your running shoes and shorts. I will bring a jersey for each player. Good luck Cobras!!

Basketball Invitational Cancelled

Our SVSD Invitational Basketball Tournament scheduled for Saturday February 25 has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled this year. A lack of teams from outside the division not attending due to their own divisional tournament is the reason for the cancellation of this tournament.

Basketball Jam - Grade 5/6

Basketball Jam forms have been sent home with the Grade 5/6 students today. Our Basketball Jam takes place on Tuesday February 14 at ESRSS from 5:00-8:00. Students need to provide their own transportation to get there and back. If you are stuck without a ride, ask a friend!! I would like forms in by this Monday February 6, 2012. Thanks you!!

Ski Trip forms sent home

Ski Trip 1 & 2 permission & waiver forms have been sent home to be signed and returned. Each ski trip costs $15 to attend and that pays for the entire day (except for snacks & drinks). Due date for forms is Tuesday February 07 this way I can put all the info together and send it in all at once. Thank you.

Basketball 1

Congrats to the Cobra Basketball Crew on a good start to the season as we now know where we need to grow and improve as the season develops. I would also like to congratulate Austin, Eric, Chayce & Kristen on their Player of the Game honours given out. Way to go boys!
